Chernihiv, Ukraine
Object #1 - school
This school in Chernihiv was seriously damaged in March 2022 by a missile strike in the schoolyard. The building was not destroyed, but the blast wave shattered 88 windows and damaged 36 heating radiators. Additionally, the school's exterior sustained numerous shrapnel impacts.

Assistance provided:
The school was restored with government funds, but the shelter was equipped with the help of the 'Angels of Freedom' and donors from Belgium. In addition to the repair work, we purchased the following items for the school's shelter:
  • 260 folding chairs;
  • 80 folding desks;
  • 2 fire extinguishers;
  • 3 heaters;
  • Routers, extension cords, and other necessary items;

Object #2 - school
This school in Chernihiv is the only one in the area that survived the air raids. It now also serves children from two neighboring schools that were completely destroyed by direct bomb hits and are beyond restoration.

Assistance provided:
The repair of the underground shelter in the school was funded by the government.
The "Angels of Freedom" purchased the following items for the school's bomb shelter:
  • 60 folding chairs;
  • 30 folding desks;
  • Kettles, microwave ovens, thermoses;
  • Other necessary equipment.

Object #3 - kindergarten
Although currently 101 children are enrolled in this kindergarten, it has the capacity to accommodate up to 300.

Assistance provided:
The basement was renovated and converted into a fully functional underground shelter. Impact-resistant and frost-resistant floor tiles were installed, the walls were painted, the wiring was replaced, and new outlets and junction boxes were added. A complete ventilation system was also set up to ensure that children can remain comfortably in the shelter for several hours.
Additionally, the shelter was equipped with:
  • 85 children's chairs;
  • 10 wooden benches;
  • 25 children's tables;
  • 12 LED lights;
  • 12 thermoses (10 liters each).

Object #4 - kindergarten
Currently, 245 children are enrolled in this kindergarten, which can accommodate up to 305.

Assistance provided:
The shelter was upgraded with impact-resistant, frost-resistant floor tiles and a full ventilation system to ensure the children's comfort for extended periods.
It was also equipped with:
  • 30 children's chairs;
  • 10 wooden benches;
  • 20 children's tables.

Object #5 - school
Built in 1986, this Chernihiv school sheltered 360 people in its unfinished basement during the intense military actions near the city in February-March 2022. The school reopened for in-person education on September 1, 2023, for the first time since the conflict began. It now serves 918 students.

Assistance provided:
The "Angels of Freedom" supplied 200 folding chairs for the school's shelter.

Object #6 - kindergarten
To make the kindergarten’s shelter more comfortable for children during air raids, heaters and furniture were needed.

Assistance provided:
The shelter was equipped with:
  • 2 heaters;
  • 15 children's chairs;
  • 12 trapezoid tables;
  • 3 triple-tiered beds.

Object #7 - kindergarten
The kindergarten currently enrolls 192 children. It was the first in Chernihiv to reopen in August 2022, as it remained undamaged during the conflict and had a basement that could quickly be converted into a basic shelter using budget funds. However, the shelter lacked proper ventilation, causing significant discomfort for the children during air raids lasting more than 30 minutes.

Assistance provided:
The kindergarten's shelter was upgraded with:
  • Installed ventilation
  • Replacement of 2 deteriorated doors
  • Installation of 4 restroom stalls
  • Purchase of 10 children's tables
  • Purchase of 15 children's chairs

Object #8 - 2 kindergartens
The shelter serves two kindergartens located across the road from each other. One kindergarten has 340 children, and the other has 170. During air raids, all the children take refuge in a shared basement, which is divided into two zones, each designated for one of the kindergartens.

For the first kindergarten:
  • 80 children's chairs
  • 20 trapezoid tables
  • 26 student desks
For the second kindergarten:
  • 40 children's chairs
  • 20 trapezoid tables

What we are helping to rebuild now

This kindergarten in Chernihiv enrolls 240 children across 11 groups: 3 nursery groups, 2 speech therapy groups, and 6 general development preschool groups.

Assistance needed:
The shelter requires:
  • Ventilation installation;
  • Cosmetic repairs;
  • New furniture, including chairs, trapezoid tables, and triple-tiered beds for the nursery group.
